Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common IT questions at Horus University
Account & Password
Visit the Microsoft 365 password reset portal at portal.office.com and follow the self-service password reset steps. You will need your @hue.edu.eg email address and your registered phone number for verification. If you cannot reset online, contact the IT Help Desk with your university ID for manual assistance.
MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification method (Microsoft Authenticator app, SMS, or phone call) when signing in. MFA is mandatory for all HUE users — 100% enrollment is enforced. To set up: sign in at aka.ms/mfasetup, choose your preferred verification method, and follow the prompts. We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app for the best experience.
Passwords must be at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. Passwords expire every 90 days. You cannot reuse your last 5 passwords. Never share your password with anyone — IT staff will never ask for your password.
Connectivity & Network
Connect to the HUE-WiFi network and sign in using your university email (@hue.edu.eg) and password. The network is available in all 12 campus buildings. If you experience connectivity issues, try forgetting and reconnecting to the network, or contact the IT Help Desk.
Download the FortiClient VPN application from the IT self-service portal or the FortiNet website. Configure it with the HUE VPN server address provided by IT (included in your onboarding documents). Connect using your university credentials with MFA. VPN is required for accessing internal systems (Odoo ERP, internal SharePoint sites) from off-campus.
Yes, guest WiFi is available for visitors. Connect to the HUE-Guest network and accept the terms of service. Guest access provides internet connectivity with limited bandwidth. For extended access or specific requirements, the hosting department should submit a guest access request to IT.
HUE Hub & Microsoft Teams
Open Microsoft Teams (desktop or mobile app), search for "HUE Hub" in the Apps panel, click Add, and sign in with your @hue.edu.eg credentials. HUE Hub provides unified access to schedules, grades, financial information, registration, and IT support tickets — all within Teams.
Your Microsoft 365 account is automatically created with your university enrollment or employment. Sign in at portal.office.com using your @hue.edu.eg email. First-time sign-in requires MFA setup. Account activation may take up to 24 hours after enrollment. Contact IT Help Desk if your account is not active after 24 hours.
Sign in at portal.office.com, click "Install Office" in the top right corner, and follow the installation wizard. You can install the full desktop suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) on up to 5 personal devices as part of your A3 education license.
IT Support
You can submit a ticket through: (1) HUE Hub in Microsoft Teams — go to the IT Tickets section, (2) Email the IT Help Desk at support@hue.edu.eg, or (3) Call the support hotline during working hours. Include a clear description of your issue, your university ID, and any error messages or screenshots.
The IT Help Desk operates Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For urgent issues outside working hours (system-wide outages, security incidents), email support@hue.edu.eg or infosec@hue.edu.eg — critical incidents are monitored 24/7 via Microsoft Sentinel.
Submit an IT ticket describing the hardware issue (laptop, desktop, printer, projector, etc.), include your office/lab location, and the IT Support team will schedule a visit or ask you to bring the device to the IT service center. University-owned equipment is repaired free of charge.
Software & Applications
All HUE users receive free access to: Microsoft 365 A3 (Office suite, Teams, OneDrive, Exchange), FortiClient VPN, and Microsoft Defender. Engineering and design students also get free Autodesk and MATLAB licenses. Visit the Software Solutions page for the complete list and activation instructions.
Submit a software assessment request to the IT department. The process involves: (1) initial request describing the need, (2) completing a Software Assessment Request form approved by your department head, and (3) IT security and compatibility review. See the full Software Assessment Process for details.
Staff and faculty access Odoo at oerp.horus.edu.eg using their university credentials. Students access their portal (grades, schedule, financial) via the WSNJ portal or through HUE Hub in Teams. If you need access to specific Odoo modules, submit a request to your department head who will coordinate with IT.
Security
Report any suspicious activity immediately to infosec@hue.edu.eg or submit an urgent IT ticket via HUE Hub. Include details of what happened, when, and any screenshots or suspicious email headers. Do not forward suspicious emails to colleagues. See the Information Security page for more details.
Do NOT click any links or download attachments. Use the "Report Message" button in Outlook (provided by Microsoft Defender for Office 365) to report it as phishing. If you already clicked a link or entered credentials, immediately change your password and report the incident to infosec@hue.edu.eg.
If you connect to university resources (WiFi, VPN, email), we strongly recommend having endpoint protection installed. Microsoft Defender is available to all HUE users as part of the M365 A3 license. For university-owned devices, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is mandatory and automatically deployed.
Academic Systems
Your course schedule is available through HUE Hub in Microsoft Teams (Schedule section) and through the WSNJ student portal. The schedule is updated in real time from the Odoo ERP registration system.
Grades are available through HUE Hub (Grades section) and the WSNJ student portal after they are published by your faculty. For official transcripts, submit a request through the Student Affairs office or via the Documents section in HUE Hub.
Course registration is done through the Odoo Registration module, accessible via WSNJ portal or HUE Hub during the registration period announced by Student Affairs. Contact your academic advisor for course selection guidance before registering.
SEER uses computer vision and facial recognition to automatically record class attendance. Your attendance is logged when you enter the classroom — no manual sign-in required. Attendance records sync with the Odoo ERP system and are visible in HUE Hub. If you believe your attendance was not recorded correctly, contact your instructor or submit an IT ticket.
